Master data management solution goes global
No one would accuse Chevron of thinking small. The California-based petroleum company produces over 2.6 million b/d from 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent reserves. It invests billions of dollars every year in major exploration projects from the Gulf of Mexico to Angola, and owns refineries, gas stations and other petroleum outlets in 175 countries. Oil and gas are transported in over 22,000 km of their pipelines and 44 sea-going vessels. MORE…
Work Group: What is a Well?
Progress on the “What is a Well” work group has been steady. Baseline component definitions and diagrams are being prepared for publication, and comparisons to 14 US and Canadian regulatory agencies are in their final review stages. An education programme that will supplement these materials is also being developed (Q1 2009). We anticipate release once the sponsoring group gives their final approval. For more information, visit the work group site.
A draft charter for Phase 2 is being prepared and will be available soon. If you are interested in joining the sponsor group, please contact us at info@ppdm.org.
Discussion Group: Data Model Administration Application
Over recent months a number of members have voiced their support for a project to build an administrative application for managing the PPDM model. An administrative application would allow instances of the model to be more easily managed, in particular managing the organizational data held in the model.
The Association would like to hold a workshop at the User Group meeting schedule for February 27th to explore development of the application as an initiative. It would be helpful if members who would like to attend the workshop would reply to PPDM (info@ppdm.org), nominating people from their organization who would be willing to contribute to the discussion.
Discussion Group: Special Hydrocarbon Recovery
A group of companies has been discussing the potential scope and requirements to develop a life cycle based data model for Mineable Oil Sands. See the work done so far.
Further work for heavy oil recovery and coal bed methane is being discussed by some members. In order to begin work on this group, three companies must express solid interest and commitment. If you would like to participate in these plans, please contact us at info@ppdm.org.
Discussion Group: Business Rules and Data Quality
Our members are interested in launching a work group to create and distribute standard data quality rules, best practices for data management in Oil and Gas, and an industry standard methodology for measuring the quality of your data. Some preliminary information can be found on the web site. If you would like to participate in these plans, please contact us at info@ppdm.org. |
